# Managed Assistants

> Run a Chert-managed persona on a provisioned line.

For a Chert-managed conversation, configure an Assistant in the [FaceTime dashboard](https://facetime.trychert.com). For your own agent and LiveKit project, use [BYOR](/facetime/bring-your-own-room).

<Note>
  “Chert-operated line” refers to the FaceTime infrastructure. “Chert-managed Assistant” refers to who runs the agent. If you bring your own coaching agent, choose BYOR even though Chert operates the line.
</Note>

## Lifecycle

1. Create or edit a draft with a name, system prompt, greeting, and avatar configuration.
2. Publish an immutable version.
3. Assign the Assistant to a line. The line resolves its active published version for a new call.

## Inbound calls

The worker checks readiness, answers an eligible call, initializes the managed agent, and bridges media. Review the call record for status and terminal reason. Publishing a new version affects subsequent calls.

<Note>
  FaceTime Video carries audio and video in both directions. A vision-enabled managed agent can receive the caller's camera while presenting its own video. See [Audio and video](/facetime/audio-video) for media selection.

## Configuration

Use the dashboard to create, publish, and assign Assistants. Keep a BYOR line on `customer_decides` with no default Assistant: assigning a published Assistant can select the managed route instead.
